Can I accept payments from international clients with Stripe, and are large charges a problem?
Stripe works in practically every country. Besides Visa and Mastercard, it supports other payment types depending on the country, such as ACH and wires. If a particular country is not supported, you may need to collect payment another way.
On large charges: Stripe, like any card processor, looks at risk. Unlike a traditional bank merchant account, Stripe accepts everyone at sign up and reviews your business once payment volume starts. Consistency helps. Many recurring customers at similar price points look stable, while a sudden very large one-off charge on a new account can make Stripe nervous. If a first client owes a very large amount and you have no other volume, consider asking for a check or wire instead. Monthly prices in the low thousands or below are generally a comfortable range.
